A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. While preserving natural teeth is always the first priority, extraction becomes necessary when a tooth is too severely damaged, decayed, or infected to be saved, or when its presence causes harm to adjacent teeth or the overall bite. At our Al Karama clinic, we perform both simple extractions (for fully erupted teeth) and surgical extractions (for broken, impacted, or retained teeth) under appropriate anesthesia. Wee take a conservative approach; we only recommend extraction when no viable treatment option exists to save the tooth. We also discuss tooth replacement options (dental implants, bridges, or dentures) at the time of extraction so you have a complete plan from the outset.

Step 1: Assessment and X-ray A digital X-ray confirms the root shape, proximity to nerves, and condition of the surrounding bone. This determines whether a simple or surgical approach is needed. |

Step 2: Local anesthesia Local anesthesia is thoroughly numbed before any instruments are used. You will feel pressure but no sharp pain during the procedure |

Step 3: Loosening the Tooth Specialist instruments (elevators) are used to gently loosen the tooth within its socket and expand the socket walls to allow the tooth to be removed without excessive force. |

Step 4: Extraction The tooth is firmly gripped with extraction forceps and removed with a controlled rocking and rotating motion. Surgical extractions may involve a small incision and sectioning the tooth into pieces. |

Step 5: Socket Care The socket is cleaned and inspected. A socket preservation graft may be placed if an implant is planned for the future. Dissolvable sutures are placed if required. |
